General Overseer

Enoch Adejare Adeboye was born in 1942 into a humble family in Ifewara, Osun State, Nigeria. Raised in poverty—he often recalls not owning shoes until he was eighteen—he attributes his success to qualities such as focus, diligence, consistency, and determination. In 1967, he married Foluke Adenike Adeboye, and in 1973 he committed his life to Christ through the ministry of Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, founder of the The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Ordained a pastor in 1977, Adeboye became known for his passion for evangelism, organizing Bible studies, crusades, revivals, and large evangelistic gatherings across southwestern Nigeria.

In 1981, following the death of Akindayomi, Adeboye became General Overseer of RCCG, a role that marked the end of his academic career and the beginning of a new phase of ministry expansion.
